This Past Saturday, Haro BMX Pro Cory "Nasty" Nastazio held a fund raising Jam/Party for Stephen Murray. Haro Bikes, Rockstar Energy Drink, Stay Strong, Jose Cuervo and Vans were the supporting sponsors that helped make it happen.
The location was in the hills of Temecula, California, and the jumps were built on the side of a steep slope. Believe me, there was enough speed to jump the 25ft jump into a giant booter. You actually had to brake a little between, unless you were brake less, and those guys were purposely tagging the set to slow down.
Cory paid a crew to help him build the jumps, then they day those guys departed, Cory said it rained for a week and the jumps washed away! So Cory had to put in a bunch of work to have them ready, but it worked out in the end.
Haro's Brand Manager, Allan Cooke built a solid viewing platform for Stephen Murray. Stephen had the best seat in the house! Cheers Allan.
Around 30 riders rode the jumps until the sun set, then the lights came on and the first round started. Cutting the big crew down to the best 5 tricks pulled in the session to join the invited Pro's.
Larry Edgar, Chris Hughes, and Pat Casey stood out and made it to the finals.
I could list the moves done in the finals and you would want to correct me in thinking it was on 2 sets, but no things like truck to double whip by Pat Casey was all on one jump. Opposite tail whip to double whip by James Foster was on one jump. James also did truck to down side double whip! Kids these days... Haro's own Ryan Nyquist got out a bunch of the wild moves he just filmed a few weeks ago and had a clean night with no crashes.
The over all $5,000 winner was Luke Parslow who double back flipped 9 times in order to feel out a turn down in the second spin. Just watching him double whip every run was pretty insane!
After the Jam those who weren't drunk were about to be and people were getting pushed in the pool all over the place. The night went on with with everyone socializing and trying to get back ground on the VH1 show "The X Life" featuring Nasty. This event is the season finally for the show out in a month or so.
2 Haro complete bikes were raffled off. I talked to one guy that bought $100 worth in tickets. I was with him and they called his number, but he took too long to claim the prize (drunk) so they called a new winning number and he missed out on the prize!
There was also a Dennis Enarson "SD" frame raffled off, and I heard that Dennis' Dad Kenny won it!, they re-drew a ticket though...
Thanks so much Nasty and especially the sponsors listed above, support them, they are great companies. Cheers to Jerry Badders with Vans for cooking all day/night he was on the BBQ for at least 7 hrs. I heard 300 hot dogs and 300 burgers were cooked at one point...
