Here's an update from the very bearded Ryan Nyquist...
This past weekend I attended the 3rd Annual Old School Reunion Jam at Woodward West.I wasn't sure how exactly the weekend was going to unfold, except I knew that it was going to be fun. I ride and keep in touch with some old school riders still, and they have told me for the past two years that I need to come out and experience it. I'm so glad I did! Not only was there a ton of BMX legends in attendance, but there were a lot of people I haven't seen in years, and the overall vibe for the weekend was nothing but positive. Everyone was truly stroked to just be there and be riding an amazing place like Woodward West. There was no lack of smiles and laughter, and that is the best kind of session you can have.
The whole weekend was a blast, but some of the highlights included…
-Trying to teach Jimmy Levan backflips into the foam pit. He was so close to getting them perfectly but we ran out of time. Maybe next year Jimmy!
-Hanging out with DMC. ALways a great time filled with jokes and smiles. The guy can still shred a vert ramp too.
-Watching Jose Yanez do a backflip onto the resi. Jose is credited with pulling the first ever backflip on a BMX bike. oh, did I forget to mention that he's 52-YEARS-OLD!!!!!!!! Seriously awesome!
-Riding the Mega Ramp. I was able to pull of a 360 on the 50 foot gap. Definitely a dream of mine. Big thanks to Shea Nyquist (Ryan's Brother) for being the first one to jump it and showing us all how it's done.
So definitely a fun weekend overall, and hopefully you'll see me there again next year!
