The Social Poets: Funny Obama at White House Correspondents Dinner
The Social Poets: Funny Obama at White House Correspondents Dinner: "From Denny: First the President starts off with how the state of Hawaii finally released his long form birth certificate to shut up The Birther crowd. He said he also decided to release the actual footage of his birth, never before seen in the past 50 years, not even by him.
Cue up the African music playing for his birth. When imaginary video ends, he says, 'I want to make clear to the Fox News table that this video was a joke.' Yeah, good move, Mr. President. These guys are suckers for satire sites.
Turns out it was music from a Disney movie and not his live birth footage. Just saying.
Obama moved on to criticism he is 'too professorial.' So, he told the crowd he was assigning them some reading to draw their own conclusions.
Others say he is arrogant so he has found a great self-help tool for this: his poll numbers."
Dennys Funny Quotes: Funny Will Ferrell Reacts To Bin Laden Death As President Bush
Dennys Funny Quotes: Funny Will Ferrell Reacts To Bin Laden Death As President Bush: "From Denny: Comic Will Ferrell resurrects his George W. Bush 43 reenactment where Bush learns that Osama bin Laden is now dead. Yeah, the Navy Seals got the sucker, uh, gopher.
'President Bush' reports from his local Dallas Sizzler steak house, complains about how there is no taco bar and plunks down just one more meatball onto his plate before giving his official response and report to the media about the MIA gopher.
The usually clueless George Bush goes on and on about how he and his gardening staff - the Mexicans and the whites - finally ran down that troublesome gopher and killed it. Bush named the gopher 'Ardilla' and parallels the bin Laden death to that of the gopher demise. You know how it is when a president gets really angry about some wretch trying to tear up his back yard."

Libya: Turkish Leader Demands Gadafi Step Down Highly Significant
From Denny: The entire planet is aware Turkey is a key player in the Muslim world. Turkey has encouraged the many recent democracy movements sweeping rapidly throughout the Arab world. Up until now, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has resisted handing over the public gift of full support to the rebel revolt in Libya.
Now, times have changed. Erdogan says it's time for Moammar Gadafi to go. Mark this day on your calendar for Turkey decisively turned against the Libyan leader. Erdogan urged Gadafi to step down from power - immediately. Erdogan says the Libyan people have changed, in so many words saying the people have outgrown the stagnant toxic 41-year-old dictatorship of Gadafi.
From Erdogan: "We wish that the Libyan leader pulls out from Libya and cedes power immediately, for himself and for the future of his country, without causing more bloodshed, tears and destruction. A person on whom everybody will agree should come in to rule in Libya in order to restore peace and stability in the country."
Turkey is considered the regional power broker. Erdogan's strong support of the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt helped topple the rulers. In fact, it was Erdogan who bald-faced told Egypt's Hosni Mubarak to leave office.
But, for some reason not stated, Erdogan held back on strong support for the uprisings in Libya and Syria. In these two incidences of Gadafi in Libya and Bashar Assad in Syria it was Erdogan who called for reforms and reconciliation.
Considering that Assad has been found to be torturing children I doubt anyone will be successful in calling back the cries of revenge from hurting parents. Too much has happened in the recent brutal crackdowns for reconciliation to occur in Syria. As it was, Assad's father put down another uprising decades ago, killing 40,000 people. Those kinds of brutality are not easily forgiven nor forgotten for generations.
Turkey has often complained about and questioned the United Nations Security Council - and authorized Western-led - military effort to protect Libyan civilians. He did not like the establishment of a No-Fly Zone.
Erdogan has been experiencing domestic political pressure to reverse course on his criticism because of the mounting death counts in Syria and Libya. Even his own Justice and Development Party advises him to straighten out his many foreign policy inconsistencies. Erdogan is also under public scrutiny for when he vacationed with Syria's Assad family last year.
The political reality for Erdogan's party is that crucial general elections are arriving in just six short weeks. His moderate, Islamist-rooted political party is considered the favorite winner. It is predicted to take about 48.7 percent of the vote. Four years ago the party took 46.6 percent of the vote. (from Turkish newspaper "Sabah")
This sudden shift in position from Turkey is highly significant. Remember it was originally the Ottoman Empire, now the new Turkey, that once ruled Libya for centuries. Erdogan's comments came a day after Turkey shut down its embassy in Tripoli, the Libyan capital. This new attitude toward Gadafi will resonate strongly throughout Gadafi's inner circle, causing rifts and uncertainty.
The perception of Turkey making this very public announcement is that they are furious with Gadafi's brutal regime, continuing to bombard rebel held cities, killing hundreds of civilians. Yet all the while Gadafi publicly maintains he is abiding by the cease-fire agreement. No one respects a weasel whose word cannot be trusted.
This statement from Prime Minister Erdogan sure sounds like frustration: "Gadafi preferred to shed blood instead of heeding our calls. We are done talking in Libya."
The whole world is tired of Gadafi. We hear you, Mr. Erdogan. Terrorists and dictatorships need no longer apply for leader of any country in the world.

The Social Poets: Dead: Osama Bin Laden, Time To Stop Iraq-Afghan Wars
The Social Poets: Dead: Osama Bin Laden, Time To Stop Iraq-Afghan Wars: "From Denny: Justice came swiftly this weekend, dished out from American Special Forces in a deadly fire fight, unleashed by President Obama to kill decades-long terrorist Osama Bin Laden. The mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 was found living in the lap of luxury in a large mansion in the affluent suburb of Abbottabad, about 30 miles outside of Islamabad, Pakistan. As it was, in the 40 minute fire fight, it was believed he used one of his wives as a human shield as he fired upon the assault team.
Terrorist cult leader turned world pariah
Like the typical cult leader he preached sacrifice and frugal living to his dewy-eyed followers yet enjoyed a lavish life style for himself, his family and closest followers."

The Social Poets: Iran: Gotcha Government Systems With The Stars Virus
The Social Poets: Iran: Gotcha Government Systems With The Stars Virus: "From Denny: The Iranian version of Chicken Little is running around screaming that their government systems were targeted again by the West. Read that as 'It's America's and Israel's fault. We have been wronged by the Big Bad Bullies of the West.'
Iran claims it is the Stars Virus, sent by vicious Western cyberattackers, has infected their computer systems. As usual for this clownish regime, they have not verified any of this to be true - other than the infection."

The Social Poets: Jon Stewart Interviews Egypt Revolution Activist Gigi Ibrahim: "From Denny: Stewart dishes out the political satire in a semi-serious interview aimed at exposing how for decades American policy has had little to do with the reality of every day Egyptians.
What is so funny about the experience of this young woman is how she became involved in the Egypt Revolution this past January in Tahrir Square. She went to a class, 'The Social Mobilization Under Authoritarian Regime,' at the American University in Cairo."

Libya: Specific Targeting: Predator Drones, Gazillion Political Cartoons
From Denny: America is off their war holiday and back in the driver's seat with NATO in Libya. Read that as the other guys so screwed up they demanded America go back to spending all the money and taking all the heat when the bombs land on unintended targets. They never did get their targeting as accurate as America does.
The latest? Well, at least we are using less expensive weaponry. This time we are back to using the drones with Hellfire missiles like we used in Pakistan. Of course, Pakistan is tired of us and ordered out our CIA intelligence gathering crowd. They aren't too happy with our drones killing off well-paying Taliban who fund the corrupt members of the Pakistani military and political circle.
So, what is a self-respecting American military to do? Well, just slide those useful drones right on over to Libya, of course: brilliant! We can boast about how we save money for the budget deal of a life time. Then we can brag how we don't kill quite as many innocents when we bomb Gadafi's troops.
Considering how the Libyan rebels are demanding NATO send in ground troops, this is a better bet. The American people are not in the mood to send in ground troops anywhere in the world, especially Libya. Nor are the American people in the mood to slide down that slippery slope of arming the rebels.
If the other NATO members like France and Britain want to arm them, then, please, allow them to pay for it. As it is, the Arab League is conspicuously quiet when it comes to offering up their wallets while they are quite loud about all the things which must be done to chase out Gadafi.
Many military experts, and the rebels as well, are upset the fighting is at a stalemate. The reality is a stalemate at this early juncture is actually a huge win for the rebels. These guys are virtually clueless. The majority are only just now beginning to listen to the experienced soldiers who defected to help them.
The rebels are suffering terrible losses as they learn to mobilize better, train as real soldiers, get their supply lines functioning without hiccups. Recently, there were two generals vying for control of the rebel army and the council finally settled upon one choice. It's squabbling like this - and scrambling for leadership - that stalls a revolution's progress.
The Predator Drones will be flying twice a day every 24 hours, right now primarily around Misrata. This city is the third largest in Libya and the focal point of resistance in western Libya. The rebels have been holding out here under relentless attack from Gadafi forces. They could use some relief like these drones.
From Marine Gen. James Cartwright: "What they will bring that is unique to the conflict is their ability to get down lower, therefore to be able to get better visibility on targets. They are uniquely suited for urban areas."
What did Sec. of Defense Gates say about the possibility of America getting drawn in deeper into the Libyan conflict? He denies using the drones is "mission creep." He commented that the Predators are only a "modest contribution" to the NATO-led effort.
At present just how much is America spending on the Libyan rebels and what are we giving them? We are spending $25 million, supplying them from excess military stock in the way of vehicles and "other supplies." No details on those supplies though most likely they are flak jackets, helmets, uniforms and the like.
So far, President Obama says he is not arming the rebels with lethal weapons. Erring on the side of smart caution, refusing to hand out lethal weapons like candy, this administration is wary of a group of which so little is known and so much is still disorganized.
Currently, President Obama still asserts: "The U.S. military role would be limited to providing surveillance, refueling and other noncombat support operations."
A couple of late night comedian jokes from David Letterman about the Libya situation:
The White House says we'll be staying in Libya longer than expected. I didn't see that coming. – David Letterman
The original estimate for Libya was two weeks. Now they're predicting about 12 years. – David Letterman
