What is an alternative to Refollow.com?

Tweeting bird, derived from the initial 't' of...Image via Wikipedia
One of the best Twitter tool websites to crop up in the last few years is Refollow.com -- a site that allowed users to follow and unfollow other Twitter accounts with ease. However, Twitter changed their terms of use agreement and effectively shut down the free part of the service, changing Refollow.com into a pay-to-use site. Here, I tell you two alternative websites to replace the functionality of Refollow.com -- both of which are free.

1. Tweepi.com: This site allows users to follow other Twitter accounts in a highly accessible and user friendly format. This is the tool to take over the following part of Refollow.com

2. Justunfollow.com: This site allows users to unfollow Twitter accounts that don't follow them back. This site takes over the unfollowing part of Refollow.com.

I hope that this helps :)

Two Absolutely Essential Tools to Mass Follow in Twitter

Image representing Twitter as depicted in Crun...Image via CrunchBase
One of the best ways to make sure that the word gets out about your product or website is to use Twitter to constantly tweet out updates to legions of eager followers. The best way to get these followers is through "mass following" and "mass unfollowing" users from the millions of active Twitter accounts. Unfortunately, Twitter has recently closed down a lot of the loopholes and websites that made doing this a cinch. Fortunately for you, they missed a couple of websites along the way. Click to read more about two essential websites that will allow you to grow your Twitter account by mass following and unfollowing. Hurry, before Twitter closes these websites down too!

1. tweepi.com: This is one of the last of the refollow.com type websites where a user can log on and generate a quick and extensive list of users to follow en masse. The interface is clean and simple enough to make mass following and unfollowing; although, the website owners are currently updating to a beta version to make the user interface even more appealing. The website also offers mass unfollowing capabilities, but I really prefer the second website for this purpose.

2. justunfollow.com: This website is like a godsend for anyone looking to mass unfollow Twitter accounts (or even just to clean up the deadbeats on a regular account who won't follow back). The load times for loading even as many as 15,000 followers, the number on my @FutureTwitBlog account, are only a few seconds with a high speed internet account. Better yet, the site will rank the nonfollowers in terms of the accounts who have gone the longest without following back -- a great tool for making sure that you don't accidentally unfollow recently followed Twitter acounts by mistake -- before they have an adequate chance to follow back.

Using these two tools should make mass following and unfollowing on Twitter easier than ever. I personally have been able to add thousands of new users to my Twitter account @FutureTwitBlog by using these tools by doing using these websites in my spare time. Good luck in your mass following endeavors on Twitter.

2. Twitter: because you just don't care anymore.

3. Octamom: Proving once again that people shouldn't own more kids than they do cars.

4. Justin Bieber and his "Mexi-fever": Selena Gomez and Jasmine Villegas threesome?

5. Why did octamom cross the road? A: to get to the welfare check on the other side.

More Funny Tweets from Twitter about Ashton Kutcher

Vice as Nikki in SPREAD the new red band movie...Image via Wikipedia
I thought that I would share a few more funny tweets from twitter about our favorite twit -- Ashton Kutcher. Do we like having fun at the expense of this particular twit actor? Do we like to make fun of people who are better looking than us and have more money than us in general? Do fat girls like karaoke? On all accounts, the answer is YES!

Ashton woke up yesterday scared because he thought his grandma had crawled into his bed. Then, he realized it was just Demi w/out makeup.

Ashton is smart to tweet about his idiosyncrasies. It's his followers who are wasting time.

Ashton Kutcher and John Wayne -- stubbornly refused to change characters in every movie they made.

Ashton Kutcher -- gonna make celebs skinny again, one Punk'd video at a time.

Ashton Kutcher -- because your mom thinks he's cute and your sister is having his baby.

If you have any other tweets to add to these, leave them in the comment box (with your name so that you get proper credit).

More Funny Tweets from Twitter -- Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian attending Maxim's 10th Annual H...Image via Wikipedia
I just thought that I would share some funny tweets from Twitter about Kim Kardashian. Warning: if you like Kim, don't read these. They're hilarious and mean spirited.

1. Kim Kardashian makes a sex video, becomes a millionaire. A poor girl makes a sex video, get $200 and an STD. Life is fair?

2. Kim Kardashian + Justin Bieber = Cougar on the prowl.

3. Some people call call Kim Kardashian "full figured". Others simply call Weight Watchers.

4. Now playing -- Kim Kardashian in "The Shallow Girl Strikes Back".

5.  Kim Kardashian has a nose for trouble. It also doubles as an umbrella.

So, what do you think: funny or over-the-top mean?

5 Ways to Make Money from Your Twitter Account

Many people are unaware that Twitter can be a powerful source of extra income each month. Here, I tell you the top 5 ways to make money from your Twitter account, including sponsoring tweets, selling your account, and more.

Foreword: The first thing that I'd like to point out is that all of the methods I'm going to mention here work much better if you have two things: a) A large number of followers and b) Followers who are highly interactive with your tweets. Depending on how interactive and focused your followers are, the level where your following is "large" can vary from person to person. However, as a general rule of thumb, I would highly recommend that you have a minimum of 2000 followers before you try to make money from your Twitter account. Generally, I personally don't worry about making money from my Twitter accounts until I have at least 5000 followers on the account if the account is targeted to a specific group or demographic and 10000 followers if it's not targeted. Here is an article where you can read more about easy ways to gain more followers on Twitter.

Here are 5 ways to make money from your Twitter account:

1. MyLikes:MyLikes is a site that allows advertisers to use your Twitter account to send out tweets advertising a product. Basically, once you registers an account with MyLikes, you have the opportunity to approve tweets from different advertisers that will be sent out on your Twitter account. Once you approve a tweet, the tweet will be sent out (at a time approved beforehand by you) and the you are paid for every click on the ad by one of your followers. I only recently discovered the MyLikes website a couple of weeks ago, and I am pleased with the success I've had so far. The interface for their website is clean and easy to use, and payments are made weekly to your PayPal account, as long as you have at least two dollars or more in your account. Also, the payout rate can be up to $0.42 per click -- which is very generous in the world of advertising. Finally, MyLikes even has the option to double post your approved advertisements to a Facebook account or personal blog -- meaning that you have even more ways to earn money. All in all, MyLikes is like the Rolls Royce of methods to monetize your Twitter account. Click here to set up an account at MyLikes

2. Sponsored Tweets:Sponsored Tweets is another site that allows you to send out advertisements on your Twitter account and is very similar to MyLikes. The main differences are that you can't chose among a group of advertisers (as you can with MyLikes) and instead you have "offers" sent to your account and you can decide to approve or reject these offers. If you approve the advertiser offer, an advertisement is Tweeted out on your account and you are again payed for every click that your receive on your account. I am also very happy with Sponsored Tweets; although, I still like MyLikes a little better. The main difference for me is the fact that you can send out an advertisement on MyLikes whenever you want (instead of having to wait for ads to be offered to you by a sponsor). Even so, the opportunities to send out a sponsored tweet are very frequent (probably an average of 2-4 per day on my two Twitter accounts) and the money piles up quickly enough to keep me from complaining. Click here to read more or to set up a Sponsored Tweets account.

3. Ad.ly: Ad.ly is yet another service, similar to MyLikes and Sponsored Tweets, that allows you to send out advertisements on your Twitter account. The main difference between Ad.ly and the previous two services that I've mentioned is that they don't have a pay-per-click program in place. Instead, after you've registered, your account will be placed in a database where advertisers can see your account name and a small profile of interests that you fill out when registering. Then, if an advertiser selects your profile, you will have the opportunity to start a "campaign" for that advertiser where you send out a specified number of tweets at regular intervals and the advertiser pays you a lump sum in return. I haven't personally tried Ad.ly, but I have friends who swear that it's the best way to make money online with your Twitter account.

4. Sell your tweets on Ebay / Craigslist: If you're still looking to make more money beyond what the other three services can offer you, you can always put an ad on Ebay or Craiglist where you sell some tweets to advertisers privately. I have had some limited success employing this method. My major complaint here, however, is that it's a lot of hassle; especially since I can make more money per time invested with MyLikes or Sponsored Tweets and have them do all the grunt work. Still, if you want to squeeze that last penny from your Twitter account, this might be a good second option for you.

5. Sell your Twitter account: If you're tired of using Twitter and don't want your account anymore, you could always consider selling your account to someone else. I've seen a large Twitter account (10000+ followers) on Ebay or Craigslist sell for as much as $500. Even a smaller account can sell for $20 to 50$, depending on how targeted the account followers are.

Social Networks and Blog Promotion: Which Ones Work and Which Don't

19450025Image by jerandsar via Flickr
I have been using social networks now for about a year or so, and I have learned a lot of things: what works and what doesn't. Being that it's 2:30am here and I can't fall asleep, I've decided to share my secrets with you, my esteemed readers.
Here are the networks that work well to attract traffic, in the approximate order of how many followers they attract. Also, a small explanation of why the work (or not) is included to the side.
1. Twitter: In my opinion, Twitter is the "gold standard" when it comes to attracting traffic to your website. In general, I count on a minimum of about 1 viewer per 1,000 followers per day, assuming that I update regularly. If you have more engaged followers than I do, you'll probably have more hits from them too. In any case, Twitter is a godsend for blogging. I actually get about 33-50% of all my daily traffic from Twitter, and I only have about 20,000 followers.
2. Facebook: The Facebook account that I have associated with my blog is relatively newer, but I'm still seeing good results from the initial trials. With only about 200 friends, I'm seeing about 2 hits per day originating from Facebook -- results even better than Twitter per capita. Of course, if you have friends and family on your blog Facebook page (as opposed to strangers), I would expect that you would see higher traffic from this. However, Facebook is still below Twitter in my estimation because it's much harder to add new followers -- meaning that even a lower rate of click through from Twitter will win in the end through sheer volume.
3. Digg/Reddit: It depends on which "camp" you're in here (team werewolf vs. team vampire guy anyone?) but both services are marginally successful in driving traffic to a blog. Both have problems, however. In the case of Reddit, they like to block users who submit a lot of articles to Reddit from a blog, and they are difficult to deal with in general. Also, the interface sucks rocks. For Digg, they have a much cleaner interface and are much more lenient on submission, but they send a lot less traffic to a blog per article submitted. I guess which one (or preferably both) of these sites you use depends on your approach to blogging. More articles -- Digg is better. Fewer, higher quality articles -- use Reddit.
4. Myspace: In theory, this dying giant of a social network site should send lots of hits to my blog -- in theory. In practice, my 1,000 plus followers have generated very few hits for my blog -- probably because many of them no longer use the service.
5. Stumbleupon: I have blogger friends that swear by this, but I've never seen a large number of hits coming from that site. For each article I submit, I can usually expect a maximum of five hits to my blog from that site, I think that the problem here is that they receive such a high volume of article submissions that most of your articles are never "stumbled upon" by the site's bots.
In summary, all social networks are good to some extent to drive traffic to your blog, but some are better than others.

How to Get Lots of Followers on Twitter

Image representing Twitter as depicted in Crun...Image via CrunchBase
Twitter is a great medium for spamming people and spreading your message around the internet. However, some of your advertisement spam loses its effectiveness when you're only sending it out to five people, two of whom are Korean and don't know any English. So, here is the way to get more followers on Twitter, or pretty much any other social networking site.
1. Follow lots of people: For some reason, when you blindly follow people on a social networking site, about 1/4 to 1/2 of those people will follow you back. What this means is that the main way to get lots of followers on Twitter (or Digg, Facebook, Myspace, etc.) is to follow lots of people and wait for a return following. I wish that there was some secret that was trickier than this, but this is the main truth. Social networking sites know this, however; and they will often put blocks into their sites to limit the number of people you can follow to be no more than a certain percentage over the number that follow you. For example, Twitter limits this number to 10% -- meaning that, if you have 2000 followers, you can follow at most 2200 people. This leads me to my next point:
2. Use tools like Refollow and Twitter Karma to unfollow people who aren't following back: I know that for Twitter Refollow and Twitter Karma (Google search both to find the exact links) allow you to unfollow anyone who is not following you automatically. I'm not sure if these tools exist for other social media sites, but I'm not sure if these sites have the same following restrictions that Twitter has. In any case, both tools are very useful for getting tons of Twitter followers.
3. Promote your Twitter account on your blog, Facebook, etc.: If you already have a large following on a site like Facebook or your personal blog, you can stick a Twitter widget button on your page (again, Google search to find the address) to gain new followers. If you're only looking to increase your followers by a few dozen or a few hundred, this would be a good option for you. However, if you want followers in the thousands (which is very desirable on Twitter), this method will only take you so far.
4. Get your followers to give you shoutouts, retweets, and recommendations: Another good source to add a few dozen to hundred new followers is by having followers you know and trust give you shoutouts and recommendations to their followers. As with method 3, this can be tedious if you're looking to gain thousands of followers. However, if you're only looking for a few hundred, targeted followers, this method is as good as the three above.
Gaining Twitter followers is hard, but, with hard work and the tools mentioned above, it can be a smooth process.

Selling my tweets on Ebay

I had the bright idea a few weeks ago that I would get rich by selling tweets on my Twitter account on Ebay. After all, I reasoned, I have two active Twitter accounts, one with about 4,000 followers and one with about 2,000 followers. So, I decided to put up an ad and see what would happen.

I thought that my estimated 5,000-6,000 followers would count for something, 1$, 2$, maybe even 5$ or more. I even had dreams of starting a bidding war where the attention of my thousands of loyal fans could command top dollar and I could retire from my day job and get rich off the fame that my month or so of aggressive following on Twitter has brought me.

Except, it didn't happen.

Days passed, and the end of the three day deadline neared. I fully expected to to have some bids on my item, some indication that a person besides me thought that tweeting was worth something in life.

And then it came: a buyer purchased my tweet. The final selling price?

5 cents.

Yippie.

So, if you've ever wondered what your tweets are worth to the larger world outside of Twitter, I could answer this in two words.

Almost nothing.

Twitter sucks.

Hot Ebay Girl

P.S. Tweets are so worthless apparently that the buyer never even sent me a tweet to send out to my followers -- he just paid me the 5 cents. I'm pretty sure the guy either bought it as a joke or as a mistake.

Think of this story next time you're bragging about how many followers you have on Twitter.

How Many Visitors Do You Get Per Day from Twitter to Your Blog?

Q: I thought that I would take time to write a short post and answer this question for the curious internet users out there. The question: how many hits to your blog does a given number of followers on Twitter generate? For example, if I have 5,000 followers on Twitter and update my blog regularly, how many visits can I expect per day from my Twitter followers.

A: The long answer is that it depends on a lot of factors. The short answer is that, in my case, I get about 1 hit per day per 1000 followers.

Of course, I'm probably not as interactive on Twitter as I should be. My strategy for gaining new followers is to follow back everyone who follows me and to periodically follow a few hundred users per day (and unfollow anyone who doesn't follow me back). If I happen to make a friend or have a real conversation in there somewhere, so much the better.

If you take a more interactive approach and engage your Twitter followers more, I'm sure that you'll generate more visits for your blog from Twitter. At the same time, Twitters really is a numbers game at a certain level. Just because you add someone with similar interests on Twitter to you doesn't mean that they will actually interact with you. So, the more people you add, the better.

Bambi -- Every Twitter Pated quote in the movie

Long before Twitter stole the word, Bambi had assigned a different meaning to the word Twitter. Well, I'm going to steal it back! Here are my favorite quotes from the movie Bambi for you to enjoy!

Owl: "Hee-hee! Why, don’t you know? They’re twitter-patted"

Voice Singing: "Let's twitter a tweet like the birds in May"

Bambi, Thumper, and Flower:  "Twitter-patted?"

Owl:  "Nearly everybody gets twitter-patted in the springtime."

Thumper: "Huh! Twitter-patted!"

I hope that you enjoyed my tribute to Bambi and Twitter-pation!

Bambi and the original Twitter

Long before Twitter was associated with people spilling the unwanted details of their personal life around the web, Twitter and Twitter-pated meant something completely different -- the Disney movie Bambi!

I remember watching Bambi as a kid. I would feel bad every time the hunters/poachers shot Bambi's mother -- which was kind of ironic because I also went hunting with my Dad. I also used to eat lots of venison too!

I'm just curious where the creators of Twitter got the name for their service. The little bird that they have as their mascot even looks like something out of a Disney movie. This is what I remember Twitter for:

P.S. I basically just wanted to try out the new Zemanta gadget!

My Analysis of Twitter

Oh, the wonderful unity that Twitter has brought to the world! Instead of sitting on the John and reading a magazine as the primitive man would, we can now sit on the John and twitter to the world, "Hey, everybody, I'm sitting on the John!"

In the future, I unfortunately see Twitter becoming a more and more integral part of our society. Why? Because you're all a bunch of nosy voyeurs, that's why! You are the problem! Can't you make it 30 minutes without an update about what your friend is eating for lunch, what show they are watching on T.V., or how bad the traffic is on the way home from work? Is your life really that empty?

If you still don't understand, perhaps these videos will help.

1. The Future of Twitter

2. Twitter Whores

3. A Night with Ann Coulter (not relevant, just funny)

4. Glen Beck (also pretty funny)

5. Miley Cyrus Twitter

Well, you get the idea. If you don't, please die.

Sarah Palin: Last Brain Cell Lonely and Dying

Good Old Sarah Palin. Vaugely resembling a pinup girl 10 years past her prime, Sarah has just put out a new book -- Going Rouge. Unfortunately, all of wish that she would end up going somewhere, anywhere -- just not where we can hear you.

By the good gracious of goodness almighty, we at Future Twits have peeked into the future and captured several of Sarah's future Twitters. Enjoy.

Future Twitter for December 25, 2009

10:11 @TundraPrincess: Well, gee-golly-darn, isn't it good to be back on twitter like a mossy frog on a tree stump, don't-ya-know. I sure have a lot of time on my hands, now that I'm not the governor of the GREATEST STATE IN THE WORLD. Alaska was the cradle of civilization, and all of the important acheivements of the last 40 years all have their roots there. I read that in a magazine one time . . . or heard it or something. It's like the antenna ears on a television, don't-ya-know, with a piece of concise therapy running over the straight hills. (pssst: It's a very deep philisophical thought, the one I just gave).

10:18 @TundraPrincess: Oh darn! Bristol is at it again. She just drug home some new guy she's dating. She claims that the met online, but I'm pretty sure that's the same guy who hangs out in front of the liquor store all day.

10:34 @TundraPrincess: I just got through making the first martini of the day. One down, eight to go. I would drink less, but it helps to numb the pain of my husband's stares and the moments where he asks me what in the hell I'm talking about. If I knew, then I would probably tell him.

11:37 @TundraPrincess: Martini number four is gone. I wished that I looked hotter in my flight attendant outfit. I wished that I was smarter and could make it through an interview without stumbling over my words the whole time. I wish that those guys at Fox News would call me. When I was doing their shows, they all pretended to be my friends and that we could hang out and go bowling. The only one who ever remembered was Glenn Beck, and he was just making a booty call. The nerve, gee-golly-darn-it-all. Worse yet, when I accepted, he then wanted me to fly to New York to see him! Even after I accepted that, he claimed that he was gay and hung up the phone. It's the best date I've been on in 12 years.

@TundraPrincess: 2:37 My husband is home from work. He is back to his familiar spot in the corner doing his favorite activity: throwing a tennis ball off the wall and catching it, again and again, for six hours every night. He looks so happy, sitting there, staring, not moving anything except his right hand to throw the ball. Such concentration! The only time that he looks up is to show his affection. Every so often, he will look up, look at me, look at the gun hanging on the wall, look at me, make the pow sound, shake his head, and go back to throwing the tennis ball. What a hottie!

@Moderator: We're sorry to cut this interview short, but the last Sarah Palin brain cell has died, leaving her eqaul in intelligence to Dennis Miller. In other news, Bristol is dating a player for the New York Mets -- actually, it has been updated to the entire team.

Dinner treat from Vegan Yum Yum

© 2009 Andrea's easy vegan cooking

Three of my husband's graduate students hosted us for dinner recently, with Katie doing most of the cooking. She was the one brave enough to tackle a vegan dinner, and she did a fabulous job. The food was so wonderful I asked her where she got the recipe. She answered that she had gotten it on a vegan blog - Vegan Yum Yum - had I heard of that? Well, let's just say I own mini-doughnut pans (used) and a gnocchi board (still unused) as a result of knowing that blog.

© 2009 Andrea's easy vegan cooking

The recipe is called Sweet Chili Lime Tofu With Wok Steamed Collards and Quinoa. Katie used half regular and half red quinoa for a particularly attractive look and a great taste. We were unable to get red quinoa, so the dish in the photo doesn't contain any. If you're looking for a delicious way to get some vitamin packed greens, healthful quinoa and tasty tofu on the table, go here.

My husband has become so enamored of this recipe he makes it again and again, improving a little each time. The last time he made it (not pictured here) he got the tofu nice and crispy, and it was really great. For some reason, though, the quinoa comes out wet instead of dry, and I prefer it dry.

Tweet tweet

It seems like just yesterday my son was declaring twitter to be stupid and a waste of time. Now suddenly, he's tweeting, and telling me I need to be on twitter. He says if I have a blog, I should be tweeting about it. What? I declined, but he was emphatic and set up my account. "But I don't have anything to tweet about," I protested, "all I do is sort and pack." "Then just tweet when you post something," says he. "But who will read it?," I asked? So here I am with a twitter account and I'm tweeting.. For now. I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to say or why, but I'm going to try it out for a while. If you want to follow me, and I understand perfectly if you don't, you can click here.
