Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Kate Paltrow is an American actress. She made her acting debut on stage in 1990 and started appearing in films in 1991. After appearing in several films throughout the decade, Paltrow gained early notice for her work in films such as Se7en and Emma. Following the films, Sliding Doors and A Perfect Murder, Paltrow garnered worldwide recognition through her performance in Shakespeare in Love, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress, a Golden Globe Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards, for Outstanding Lead Actress and as a member of the Outstanding Cast.

Since then, Paltrow has portrayed supporting as well as lead roles in films such as The Talented Mr. Ripley, Shallow Hal, and Proof, for which she earned a Golden Globe nomination as Best Actress in Motion Picture Drama. In 2008, she appeared in the highest grossing movie of her career, the superhero film Iron Man, and then reprised her role as Pepper Potts in its sequel, Iron Man 2. Gywneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson Omit Abortion Mention in Campaign for Planned Parenthood

Is Planned Parenthood still on the chopping block? In passing a stopgap measure to avoid a government shutdown, Congressional Republicans dropped their demand to defund the women's health services provider.

Critics attacked the eleventh hour agreement for prohibiting federally funded abortion in the District of Columbia. Many believe this signals a loss of government funding in the final budget. Others believe Planned Parenthood doesn't belong in a funding debate.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson want your help in assuring Planned Parenthood's continued funding. They've started a video campaign directing supporters to a page for donations.

Taking care not to mention abortion services as the preventive care Planned Parenthood provides, Paltrow and Johansson emphasize the possible loss of health care services for low-income women. Both focus on STD and cancer screening as services at risk of defunding. Johansson also mentions "access to birth control," but stops short of any reference to abortion.

Do Paltrow and Johansson give a fair account of the issue? Doesn't the public deserve to be reminded that Planned Parenthood provides abortions? Some have also lambasted the organization for lobbying and supporting political candidates. Of course there is no mention of political activity in either video.

I understand pro life sentiments with respect to federal funding of abortion services. Certainly, the issue is an explosive one to many Americans. Yet, maybe because abortion accounts for only 3% of Planned Parenthood services, Paltrow and Johansson didn't think it worth mentioning.

At only 3% of total services and in light of the life-saving care Planned Parenthood provides, I can overlook the partisan politics. Wouldn't total defunding be like throwing the baby out with the bath water?

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Sexiest Dress Ever

Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t the woman who normally attracts attention with her outfits, but at the screening of her new film Country Strong she surprised everyone with a daring floor-length white Emilio pucci dress. This definitely has been her most sexiest dress ever.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Sexiest Dress Ever

From the front the dress looked very demure, but the back side of it was slashed right down over her hips, and was held together only with of criss-crossing tie. The slit ran down her leg, giving onlookers a chance to see that Gwyneth Paltrow wasn’t wearing any underwear

Gwyneth Paltrow Wants Obama Supporters to Steal This Video

Gwyneth Paltrow is putting her weight, what little of it there is, firmly behind the Democrats by urging those abroad to request overseas ballot.

Clearly, Paltrow is endorsing presumptive nominee Barack Obama, although Vote From Abroad.org does not require Democrat affiliation as a prerequisite for obtaining a ballot.

Presumably, any registered overseas voter can request an absentee ballot, increasing the likelihood that Paltrow's video will do nothing more than create a wash. Republican counter-voting is a likely possibility of publication. I'm sure there are more.

What exactly will the Democrats gain through promotion of the video? A good feeling inside? Reaffirmed self-esteem? A chance to lose by thin margins?

Speaking of pain with no gain, Paltrow is taking a beating on a different front these days. The Director of Respect for Animals, Mark Glover, made mincemeat of her decision to promote Italian designer Tod's new collection. Poor little rich girl appeared in the designer's new advertising campaign totally pimped out in fox fur and fur lined-boots.

"Gwyneth Paltrow should be ashamed," laments Glover. "I can only assume that Paltrow either is ignorant of the facts or lacks human decency and compassion."

I've got my money on the former. Any day from now, Paltrow will issue a sketchy press release suggesting the designer constructed her particular garments from recyclable plastic. That or she was too busy saving her marriage to be concerned with the piddly details.

Wouldn't be surprised in the least if a rabid protester drenches her overseas ballot in pigs' blood before she gets a chance to make it count.

Viva La Vida

From the minute that the iTunes commercial began airing back in the spring with snippets of the song "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, it was fairly obvious that this was going to be a monster hit. But the obviousness wasn't just because of the 'i' connection, as powerful as that has become these days. The more obvious factor was that the damn song was catchy. It was a good tune, and it featured great vocals by Coldplay's leading man Chris Martin (also famous as Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow.) The song has been all over the radio this summer. It has definitely been my personal favorite new tune, and is arguably going to go down as 'that song', the one that you will always equate with this particular Summer of '08. The success of the song should also be no surprise once you know that the producer is Brian Eno, he of U2 and David Bowie reputation and success (among many other projects.) What Eno did with the already great Irish rockers of U2 when he produced The Joshua Tree album, he may be repeating here with Viva La Vida for Coldplay. The band already has a worldwide following of huge numbers, and Eno's work with them here may well catapult the boys even higher. "I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing, Roman cavalry choirs are singing...Be my mirror, my sword, my shield....my missionaries in a foreign field......for some reason I can't explain, I know Saint Peter won't call my name......never an honest word, but that was when I ruled the world." Coldplay is taking the airways by storm this summer with Viva La Vida. They will be passing through Philly on July 25th on their world tour, and we can surely look for much more from this album and band in the coming months. Note: joining Coldplay on some of their stops will be Austin, Texas Indie-rockers 'Shearwater' from Matador Records. This band was handpicked by the Coldplay boys to support them, and will play at the LA shows on July 14th & 15th, the San Jose show on July 18th, and the Vegas show on July 19th.
